![]() The game sold ~100k copies when it first came out. It costs tons of money renting office space, hiring new people, finding old code and assets (it's nearly 15 years old at this point, and the market for old games then wasn't what it is like now), converting it all into something they can work with today (who knows, maybe it was all stored on zip disks in a similarly obscure, no longer supported file format,) troubleshoot all the current errors (hardcore fans are willing to live with the current glitches and hangups, but Lucasarts would need to market to more than just that group) and all the new errors, and pay to support the game after its rerelease. Obvious money maker? It's strongly possibly they've done the calculations, and it just wasn't worth the cost. They appear to have completely abandoned both adventure games and space sims, and it kills me that someone decided the original Dark Forces is worthy of a rerelease on Steam but X-Wing and TIE Fighter aren't. There are some fantastic games in Lucasarts' back catalog that we'll likely never see again. It mostly just makes me sad at this point. It's not a compatibility thing - SCUMMVM takes care of most of the older titles, and there are ways to get the newer ones to work. Others.for the life of me, I can't think of any good reason why Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, or Monkey Island 3 and 4 aren't available anywhere. Some of them, like Maniac Mansion and Sam and Max Hit The Road, are probably due to licensing issues which at least would be understandable. The worst part, though, is that most of their old titles aren't available any more. And since they've licensed the Monkey Island characters to Telltale, I don't see them getting back into the genre any time soon, if ever. They've cancelled Full Throttle and Sam and Max titles since then, the latter supposedly almost entirely complete at the time of cancellation. The last new one they released was Escape from Monkey Island.in 2000. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creeschĪt this point, Lucasarts has completely abandoned adventure games./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
